History of The Chapter
The Beta Sigma Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon began after World War II, when two TKE’s came to USC for graduate work. Seeing the need for a greater fraternity system, they interested 30 men who organized the scorpion club with the sole intention of becoming a chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon. After the club convinced the national fraternity that it could stand on its feet, it soon became the Beta Sigma Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon.

The TKE Houses
631 West 28th Street had been a naval cadet program house. It was converted to semi-apartment type living to accommodate the cadets during the war. After the war the house was put up for sale. The Beta Sigma chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon asked Chancellor Von Kleinsmid to finance it and he agreed.
Von Kleinsmid financed the house personally with $25,000 of his own money. He was a true believer in the fraternity system and felt it would be a real asset to have TKE on campus. The Beta Sigma chapter has since paid back its original investment by Von Kleinsmid. The Beta Sigma Chapter also purchased the house next door in 1971, making it the only fraternity on the USC campus that owns and occupies two houses.
